This series celebrates the kookaburra, a tree kingfisher native to Australia that has become an iconic part of the country’s wildlife. Each 2011 Australian Kookaburra 1 oz silver coin is 40.6 mm in diameter, and contains one troy ounce (31.1 grams) of 999 fine silver. They are legal tender in Australia, with a face value of 1 AUD. Perth Mint produced 500,000 of the 2011 1 oz Kookaburra coins.

The reverse design of the series changes each year, and the 2011 coins feature a kookaburra prepared to take flight, with wings outstretched. The inscription “AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA”, “2011 1 oz 999 SILVER”, and the Perth Mint ‘P’ mark can also be found, alongside the initials ‘EM’ for designer Elise Martinson.
