The 2015 Koala 1/2 oz silver coin is produced by Perth Mint and issued by Australia. Perth Mint produces a variety of silver bullion coins that celebrate the country’s diverse range of wildlife. Each 2015 Australian Koala 1/2 oz silver coin is 36.6 mm in diameter, and contains half a troy ounce (15.55 grams) of 999 fine silver. They are legal tender in Australia, with a face value of 50 cents. 97,157 of the 2015 1/2 oz Koala coins were produced.

The reverse design changes each year, and the 2015 coins feature a koala sat in the fork of a eucalyptus tree with the outback in the background. The inscription “AUSTRALIAN KOALA”, “2015 1/2 oz 999 SILVER”, and the Perth Mint ‘P’ mark can also be found, alongside the initials ‘IJ’ for designer Ing Ing Jong.

The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (head of state of the British Commonwealth) by Ian Rank-Broadley whose initials ‘IRB’ can be seen below the Queen’s neck. The coin’s face value of 50 CENTS is also included, alongside the inscription “ELIZABETH II” and “AUSTRALIA”.
