Product Information:
The 2008 Austrian Gold Philharmonic 1/2 oz coin is a bullion product issued by Austria and produced by the Austrian Mint (Münze Österreich) in Vienna. The Philharmonic coins are one of the most famous bullion coin series to come from Europe, and are popular around the world.
Each 2008 Philharmonic 1/2 oz gold coin contains half a troy ounce (15.55 grams) of 999.9 fine gold. The 1/2 oz coins have a diameter of 28 mm, and are legal tender in Austria only, with a face value of €50.
The obverse of the Philharmonic coin series has remained the same since the series was introduced, and features the Great Organ (built by Gebrüder Rieger) in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein. The top of the coin includes the words "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH", while the lower section shows the words "1/2 UNZE GOLD 999.9", the year of issue, and the coin's face value of "50 EURO".
The reverse design shows several different musical instruments in another nod to the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The words "WIENER PHILHARMONIKER" are also shown. Both sides of the design were by Thomas Pesendorfer.
The 2008 Austrian Philharmonic 1/2 oz gold coin represents a smart choice for investors looking for an established bullion series, with high-purity gold and a European twist.
