The coin’s reverse portrays a minted impression of a lunar dragon on a patterned background. The sinuous, heavily-scaled creature is about to grasp a flaming pearl, a symbol of wisdom. Included in the design is the inscription ‘DRAGON’ and the Chinese character for dragon.

The obverse face of the bar features The Perth Mint's London Bullion Market Association registered mark, a stylised swan symbolising Perth Mint's 125 year-old reputation for quality. The logo and the bar’s weight and fineness appear on the same background pattern.
