The 2015 Year of the Goat 1 oz silver coin is part of Perth Mint’s popular Lunar Series, and issued by Australia. This coin is part of Series II of the Lunar coins, which were issued between 2008 and 2019. Perth Mint is famous for their beautiful coins, struck to a high quality, and the Lunar coins are exceptionally popular with collectors.

Each coin contains one troy ounce (31.1 grams) of 999 fine silver, and has a diameter of 45.6 mm. They are legal tender in Australia with a face value of 1 AUD. There were 300,000 of these Year of the Goat 1 oz silver bullion coins struck in 2015.

The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (head of state of the British Commonwealth) by Ian Rank-Broadley whose initials ‘IRB’ can be seen below the Queen’s neck. The weight of the coin, its purity, year of issue and the 1 DOLLAR face value is also included, alongside the inscription “ELIZABETH II” and “AUSTRALIA”.

The reverse depicts a family of goats, with their kid grazing on grass. The Chinese character for ‘goat’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Goat’ also appear in the design with the Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark. The designer’s initials ‘NM’ for Natasha Muhl can also be seen near the top of the design.
