The reverse design changes each year, and the 2011 coins feature an adult and baby koala sat in the fork of a eucalyptus tree. The inscription “AUSTRALIAN KOALA”, “2011 1 oz 999 SILVER”, and the Perth Mint ‘P’ mark can also be found, alongside the initials ‘EM' for designer Elise Martinson.

The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (head of state of the British Commonwealth) by Ian Rank-Broadley whose initials ‘IRB’ can be seen below the Queen’s neck. The coin’s face value of 1 DOLLAR is also included, alongside the inscription “ELIZABETH II” and “AUSTRALIA”.
