Each 2014 Australian Koala 1/2 oz silver coin is 36.6 mm in diameter, and contains half a troy ounce (15.55 grams) of 999 fine silver. They are legal tender in Australia, with a face value of 50 cents. 81,752 of the 2014 1/2 oz Koala coins were produced.

The reverse design changes each year, and the 2014 coins feature a close-up of a koala's face, peering from behind eucalyptus leaves. The inscription “AUSTRALIAN KOALA”, “2014 1/2 oz 999 SILVER”, and the Perth Mint ‘P’ mark can also be found, alongside the initials ‘MG’ for designer Michael Guilfoyle.

The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (head of state of the British Commonwealth) by Ian Rank-Broadley whose initials ‘IRB’ can be seen below the Queen’s neck. The coin’s face value of 50 CENTS is also included, alongside the inscription “ELIZABETH II” and “AUSTRALIA”.
