The phoenix is traditionally described as an eagle-like bird with scarlet and gold plumage. Just one phoenix is said to have existed at a time, each living for a period of not less than 500 years. Towards the end of this time, the phoenix built a nest that would become its own funeral pyre. After being consumed by flames, a new phoenix miraculously sprang from its predecessor’s ashes.
