Following the release of a commemorative proof silver coin to mark 50 years of the series, the Rand Refinery continued to issue the silver Krugerrand in bullion form due to its popularity with investors and collectors.

Each of these 2018 1oz silver Krugerrand coins is 38.7 mm in diameter, and struck with 999 fine silver. They are legal tender in South Africa with a face value of 1 Rand.

The reverse of the coin features the classic Krugerrand design with South Africa’s national symbol, the Springbok. The year of issue, “KRUGERRAND” and “FYNSILWER 1 OZ FINE SILVER R1” can be found on the coin, alongside the initials CLS for designer Coert Laurens Steynberg. “R1” refers to the coin’s face value of 1 Rand.

The obverse of the coin features the portrait of Paul Kruger, former president of the South African Republic (Transvaal), designed by Otto Schultz. The words “SOUTH AFRICA” in Afrikaans and English can also be seen around the outer edge.
