This year’s edition of the Evolution of Life series depicts the terror bird, also known as Phorusrhacidae. These prehistoric, flightless birds, reaching up to 3 metres in height, were among the top predators of the Neogene and Paleogene periods. Their long legs and hook-shaped beaks indicate swift predators, capable of running at speeds up to 50 km/h across the open landscapes of South America.
