The 2001 1 oz silver Britannia coin is issued by the United Kingdom and produced by The Royal Mint in Wales.

Each 2001 Britannia 1 oz silver coin has a diameter of 40 mm. The Britannia series at this time was produced to a fineness of 958 (95.8% pure silver), which was known as ‘Britannia Silver’, but the coin still contains a full troy ounce (31.1 grams) of silver, with the coin having a total weight of 32.45 grams. They are legal tender in the UK with a face value of £2, and 44,816 coins were minted in 2001.

The reverse of the 2001 Britannia 1oz silver coin shows a special one-off annual design of the Lady Britannia with a lion. She wears a Corinthian helmet, and holds a trident in one hand and a shield in the other. This design was by Philip Nathan, whose signature "NATHAN" can be found below the lion's mane, along with the words “BRITANNIA”, the year of issue, and “ONE OUNCE FINE SILVER”.

The obverse of the coin displays the fourth effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, by Ian Rank-Broadley (IRB). The coin’s face value of “2 POUNDS” is also featured.
