This 1 oz platinum Platypus is a platinum bullion coin minted in 2011 by Australia’s famous Perth Mint.
With a 99.95% platinum purity, the Perth Mint Platypus coin is practically pure platinum.
The observe face of the coin features imagery of the Australian Platypus, a unique and unusual mammal which can only be found near freshwater rivers and lakes in Australia.
The obverse face of the coin features a head portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the monarch of Australia, by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley, along with the coin’s legal tender face value of AUD$100.
The Platinum Platypus was first minted by the Perth Mint in 2011, and had a limited mintage of 30,000 in that year, all of which sold out.
The Perth Mint is one of the most prestigious precious metals mints and refineries in the world and is fully owned by the Government of Western Australia.
