The 2014 Kangaroo 1 oz gold coin is issued by Australia, and produced by Perth Mint. The series celebrates Australia’s most iconic animal, and was originally called the gold Nugget. Australia is famous for its gold production, and discoveries of nuggets, but the series changed to feature the kangaroo in 1990 and has continued to do so since.
All of the 2014 Australian Kangaroo 1 oz gold coins contain a troy ounce (31.1 grams) of 9999 fine gold, the highest purity used in commercial bullion coins. They are 32.6 mm in diameter, and are legal tender in Australia with a face value of 100 AUD. 223,041 of the 2014 gold Kangaroo 1 oz coins were minted.
The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II (head of state of the British Commonwealth) by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials ‘IRB’ can be found below the Queen’s neck. The words ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and the coin’s face value of 100 DOLLARS are also shown.
The reverse design of the 2014 Kangaroo gold coins feature a kangaroo standing against a backdrop of the Australian outback. The words AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO are shown at the top, with 2014 1oz 9999 GOLD at the bottom. The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mint mark, and initials ‘TV’ for designer Thomas Vaughan are also shown.
Few coins represent the country of Australia better than the 2014 1 oz gold Kangaroo coin, and individual coins are supplied in a coin capsule.
