The 1990 Singapore Lion 1/2 oz gold coin is a bullion product issued by Singapore, and produced by the Singapore Mint.
Each coin contains half of a troy ounce (15.55 grams) of pure 999.9 fine gold, and is 27 mm in diameter. The Lion coins are legal tender in Singapore with a face value of 50 SGD. Only 5,000 of these coins were minted in 1990 as part of a five-coin set, and they are rarely seen since the Singapore Mint stopped producing them.
The lion is a national symbol of Singapore, and features prominently on the reverse of the coin, with a stylised portrait of a roaring lion with flowing mane, facing right. The coin’s face value, and the words “1/2 OZ 999.9 GOLD” are also shown. Coins produced in 1990 did not feature a privy mark.
The obverse of the coin includes the Singapore coat of arms, the year of issue, and “SINGAPORE” in four languages: English, Tamil, Chinese, and Malay.
The 1990 Singapore Gold Lion 1/2 oz coin is a great choice for collectors looking for a unique, low-mintage coin.
