Every 2015 Maple Leaf 1/10 oz gold coin contains a tenth of a troy ounce (3.11 grams) of gold, struck to a purity of 9999, the highest purity used in commercially produced bullion coins. The coins are 16 mm in diameter, and are legal tender in Canada with a face value of 5 CAD.

Featured on the obverse of the coin is the fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (head of state of the British Commonwealth) designed by Susanna Blunt. It includes the inscription ELIZABETH II, the coin's face value of 5 DOLLARS, and the year of issue. From 2015 onward, the Royal Canadian Mint replaced the coin's traditional finish with a radial line pattern on the obverse field, as a security enhancement to help combat counterfeiting.

The reverse shows the iconic maple leaf image, as designed by Walter Ott. This is surrounded by the words CANADA, 9999 FINE GOLD, and the same in French, 9999 OR PUR, as well as the coin's weight. The reverse field also received a new radial line finish in 2015, replacing the coin's traditional background as a security measure to help combat counterfeiting.
