Head of Payments

Location: Singapore

Compensation: Up to S$10,000/month (dependent on experience) + 13th-month + up to 3 months bonus

Open to local and international candidates.

BullionStar is Singapore’s leading precious metals dealer. We sell, buy back, store, and deliver physical gold, silver, and platinum to customers worldwide – from first-time buyers to institutional investors. We operate a full-service showroom in Singapore, a comprehensive e-commerce platform, and vault storage facilities across multiple jurisdictions.

We are independently owned, founder-led, and intentionally lean. There are no layers of corporate bureaucracy here. Decisions are made quickly, everyone is close to the customer, and every person in the business has a direct impact on what we deliver. We’ve built our reputation on trust, transparency, and doing things properly – not on marketing spend.

We’re looking for people who are drawn to that kind of environment – people who want ownership, not job titles, and who find energy in building something rather than maintaining something.

Why This Role Exists

The payments function at BullionStar sits behind every transaction we process. When it runs well, customers barely notice. When it doesn’t, trust erodes fast. This role exists because we need someone who understands that – and takes it personally.

This isn’t a complicated function at its core. But it demands sharp judgment, consistent care, and a genuine ability to read people and situations. The right person will be firm when they need to be firm, generous when circumstances warrant it, and switched on enough to surface problems before they become serious. They won’t wait to be told what to do. They’ll own it.

What You'll Own

  • Make the Right Call, Every Time - Every payment situation needs to be assessed in full – account history, order activity, context, and the customer’s track record all matter. You’ll recognise patterns of abuse and hold the line firmly. Where a customer is facing genuine obstacles – bank restrictions, technical issues, timing problems – you’ll be generous: time extensions, cancellations, and discounts are tools, not exceptions. These are judgment calls, not policy lookups.
  • Run the Operation with Precision - You’ll take full ownership of all incoming and outgoing customer payments – buy and sell orders, multi-currency transactions, withdrawals, and order reconciliation. You’ll build the processes and guidelines your team needs to operate with accuracy and consistency. Every transaction that flows through this function is a reflection of BullionStar’s reliability.
  • Build and Lead the Team - You’ll hire, develop, and hold your payments team to a high standard. You’ll be in it with them – handling real cases alongside them, developing their judgment over time, and building a team that handles the majority of situations confidently and independently.
  • Be the Early Warning System - You’ll surface what matters before it becomes a problem: volumes becoming unmanageable, a rising rate of aborted orders, customers repeatedly hitting obstacles with the same bank or financial institution, friction caused by BullionStar’s own systems or processes, and decisions about when force prepay should apply – for a specific subset of customers or more broadly. These aren’t things to quietly note. They need to be raised.
  • Manage Banking Relationships - You’ll act as the primary point of contact for our banking partners and financial institutions. You’ll maintain those relationships, manage escalations when needed, and represent BullionStar professionally in any payment-related communication.

What You'll Own

We care far more about who you are than what’s on your CV. The right person will have most or all of the following traits:

  • Intelligent and aware. You read situations quickly, notice details others miss, and make sound calls under pressure. You see the full picture before you act, and you act without needing to be pushed.
  • Common sense. You don’t need a policy for every scenario. You use good judgment, own your decisions, and stay calm when things get complicated.
  • Entrepreneurial. You’ve built something, run something, or been the person who made things happen without a roadmap. We’d rather see someone who has navigated the real challenges of a small business than someone with middle management experience from a large corporation where the rules were already set.
  • Hands-on leader. You lead by doing, not by delegating from a distance. Your team handles more because you’re in it with them – working real cases, building their judgment, raising their standard.
  • Aware and creative. When the process doesn’t fit the situation, you find a better way. You notice patterns others miss and you act on them.
  • Enthusiastic. BullionStar isn’t just a job to you. This role becomes a genuine priority in your life. You care about doing it well, every day, and it shows.
  • AI-forward. You see technology as a way to work smarter. You’re willing to experiment with AI tools and integrate them into daily workflows – not as a gimmick, but as a genuine force multiplier.

Formal qualifications matter far less to us than the traits above. If you have the intelligence, the judgment, and the willingness to learn, you can succeed in this role regardless of your background.

What This Role Is Not

This is not a process-following role where you apply the same rules to every situation. Payments at BullionStar require judgment, context, and decisiveness. If your instinct is to escalate everything or wait for guidance, this isn’t the right fit.

It’s not a back-office position detached from the customer. You’ll be making real decisions that affect real people’s transactions, often under time pressure, and communicating directly with customers and banking partners.

It’s not a role for someone who needs a corporate structure to function. You’ll have real ownership and real autonomy – and we expect you to use both.
