Perth Mint has produced the Lunar Series gold coins since 1996. The year of the Ox 1997 was the second year the Gold Lunar was produced.

The obverse features the head of state of the British Commonwealth, Elizabeth II, along with the weight of the coin, its purity and face value. The face value of the 1 ounce coin is A$100.

The reverse of the coin features a large ox looking over his shoulder, design by Jovan Radanovich, along with the Chinese character for ‘Ox’.

Each Year of the Ox Gold coin is minted in .9999 fine gold.
